Kelso Bed and Breakfasts

Kelso is a quaint market town situated in the Scottish borders where the river tweed and Teviot flow together. With a population of just over 6,000, Kelso is widely regarded as one of the most charming and quaint towns in Scotland. Kelso Bed and Breakfasts features a range of places to stay in the area.

Kelso has some wonderful Georgian buildings and cobbled streets. It is, in fact unique in Scotland due to four cobbled streets that form its French style, cobbled market square. Sir Walter Scott, who many consider to be the first author to have a truly international career, was a student at Kelso Grammar school in 1783.

He commented that Kelso was the most beautiful, if not the most romantic village in Scotland. Kelso is home to “Rennies Bridge”, which was completed in 1803 and is a smaller, earlier version of the famous Waterloo Bridge.

Kelso has a lot to offer to its visitors, particularly in the way of sport and recreation. Kelso racecourse has a National Hunt (Jumping) race track and is fondly known as “Britain’s friendliest racecourse”. The first race was in 1822. There are also two excellent 18-hole golf courses. One thing Kelso is renowned for is its Salmon fishing in the river Tweed. The Cobby riverside walk, from the town centre to the Floors Castle along the banks of the tweed is also another popular attraction.

An excellent day out for everybody has to be Floors Castle. It’s the largest inhabited castle in Scotland and home to the Duke and Duchess of Roxburghe and their family. The castle is packed with tapestries, furnishings and priceless European paintings. Another great day out is the annual Border Union Show, held on the last Friday and Saturday of July each year in Springwood Park.

Guests can enjoy a range of activities and entertainment from top lurcher racing, dog agility displays, & over 200 trade stands. The standard of accommodation in Kelso is high, and there is a lot to choose from, including hotels, guest houses and bed and breakfasts. Kelso Bed and Breakfasts feature some of the very best.
